Founded in 2012, the 60+ voice ensemble is celebrated for our musicianship, creative programming and
community outreach. Under the leadership of Interim Artistic Director, Justin Gazard and Executive Director, Robert Reader, the HGMC sings a wide range of music as a catalyst for enriching and educating both participants and audiences by demonstrating to individuals the many ways that
beautiful music positively impacts our world.
The HGMC recognizes the sociopolitical statement inherent in being an openly gay organization and, as such, representatives of the LGBT community. In addition to our concerts we represent the LGBT community through partnerships with other gay and gay-affirming organizations, outreach within our community and beyond, and participation and performances at pride events, cultural celebrations, civic programs, sporting events, and other special occasions.
In 2019 alone the HGMC has participated in the below events.
True Colors Youth Conference
National Anthem at Hartford Yard Goats
Making Safe Sex Kits at the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective
On That Note! performed for the Connecticut Bar Association’s Annual
National Anthem at Connecticut Sun
Pillow Pride at Jacob’s Pillow
New London Pride
The Hartford Gay Men’s Chorus will be one of the premier performing arts organizations in New England.
The Hartford Gay Men’s Chorus will use music as a catalyst to inspire, impact, and enrich the lives of our members, patrons, and the community.
The HGMC is a member of the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA). GALA is an international network of more than 190 choruses including men’s, women’s and mixed ensembles of various sizes that perform in a wide variety of settings, stimulating pride within their respective communities. GALA hosts a choral festival every four years, which features performances, workshops, and networking opportunities. GALA also offers member choruses professional consultation and provides a wide range of resources in support of the individual and collective mission of LGBTQ choruses around the globe.
